What can we take from the 49ers offensive snap count through 9 games?

The San Francisco 49ers are in the midst of their bye week, which means no game this weekend, and most of the players are away from the facility getting in some R&R. The bye week comes at Week 10, which puts us just over halfway through the season.

We've got various bits of midway point content coming the next few days, and I thought I would start with some snap count information. Below I have posted the offensive snap count numbers through the first nine weeks. I broke it down by position, and then below that you can view it week-by-week. The numbers broken down by position are strictly offensive snaps.

Quarterbacks

QB Colin Kaepernick: 505
QB Blaine Gabbert: 64

We know Kap was benched, so there is nothing too surprising here. Kap got two snaps in Week 9 after Gabbert took a big hit from a pass rusher. Gabbert will be starting in Week 11 vs. the Seattle Seahawks. Anything resembling a competent performance might be enough to lock down the starting job the rest of the season.

Running Backs

RB Carlos Hyde: 295
FB Bruce Miller: 171
RB Mike Davis: 98
RB Reggie Bush: 48
RB Kendall Gaskins: 44
RB Shaun Draughn: 44
RB Jarryd Hayne: 28
RB Pierre Thomas: 4

The 49ers have used a large rotation of running backs due to injuries. Hyde has a stress fracture in his foot, and Davis fractured his hand. Since the end of Week 9, the 49ers released Pierre Thomas and signed Travaris Cadet. Draughn got the start in Week 9, and did some decent work. It wasn't huge, but it was enough. I imagine he gets the start again in Week 11, with Gaskins handling more short yardage work, and Cadet getting third down and special teams work.

Wide Receivers

WR Torrey Smith: 428
WR Anquan Boldin: 372
WR Quinton Patton: 220
WR Jerome Simpson: 50
WR Bruce Ellington: 49
WR DeAndrew White: 30

Simpson has played two games, and has already surpassed Ellington in snaps. Ellington missed three games, but even still, how has Ellington played three times as many games, but have one less snap? It blows my mind. Any ideas what the heck is going on?

Tight Ends

TE Garrett Celek: 363
TE Vernon Davis: 329
TE Vance McDonald: 206
TE Blake Bell 67

It was the Celek show much of the season, with Davis injured for a while, and McDonald injured and ineffective. Following the Vernon trade, McDonald got the most snaps in Week 9 among the tight ends. Celek was coming off the concussion protocol, so we'll see if he ends up with more snaps than McDonald in Week 11.

Offensive Line

LT Joe Staley: 569
LG Alex Boone: 569
C Marcus Martin: 569
RT Erik Pears: 569
RG Jordan Devey: 390
RG Andrew Tiller: 169
RT Trent Brown: 9

We saw Brown get his first work last week, and Tiller ended up with more snaps than Devey for the second time this season. In Week 6, Tiller had 34 to Devey's 25, but in Week 9, Tiller had 48 to Devey's nine. Pears also clocked in with nine RG snaps. I have no idea how this will play out moving forward, but would it surprise anybody if Tiller got his first formal start at right guard next week against Seattle?
