The Cleveland Browns are finally going to get some kind of firm idea of their future with quarterback Johnny Manziel. FOX Sports NFL reporter Jay Glazer is reporting the Browns are making the switch to Manziel as the starting quarterback for the rest of the season. Manziel had been filling in for an injured Josh McCown, but nobody knew what the plan was once McCown was fully healthy. Now, we know.
The San Francisco 49ers travel to face the Browns in Week 14. Barring the Browns reversing course, that means the 49ers will face Manziel that week. The Browns could look at this in one of two ways. Starting McCown likely would win them more games over their final six weeks after their Week 11 bye. However, they invested in Manziel, and need to figure out what their future is with him. McCown is a decent quarterback, but the Browns remain in a rebuilding period. I look at this as a couple wins not being worth putting off an answer on Manziel.
The 49ers-Browns game is the second of two straight road games for the 49ers. The Browns will be on the back end of a three-game homestand. This bodes well for Browns wide receiver Travis Benjamin. He has led the Browns in receiving four weeks this season, and three of those came when Manziel was quarterback. He will be the receiver the 49ers likely spend a lot of time prepping for in a few weeks.
