It was another inglorious defeat for the San Francisco 49ers, losing 27-6 to the St. Louis Rams. Head coach Jim Tomsula spoke to the media after the game, and got plenty of questions about all the problems facing this team. He answered a quarterback question by saying he would not get into Colin Kaepernick's performance until he watched the tape. Oh, the fond memories of Mike Singletary.
(Opening remarks)
"Injuries: (RB Reggie) Bush, knee, didn't return. (S L.J.) McCray, knee, didn't return. (TE Garrett) Celek, concussion. (RB) Mike Davis, hand, (CB Keith) Reaser, ankle. (CB Kenneth) Acker, ribs and shoulder, he did come back and then (P Bradley) Pinion with a calf at the end of the game there, did not return. What we did today was not good enough and that is me 100 percent."
(On if RB Mike Davis fractured his hand)
"We're checking for that right now."
(On if they'll have to add running backs to the roster if it is a fracture)
"Yes, sir, if that's the case."
(On why he released former 49ers RB Jarryd Hayne yesterday)
"We wanted to get a heavier back."
(On if he second-guessed releasing Hayne when Bush was injured today)
"No, ma'am."
(On if the team has been making changes to the roster and game plan to fix the team's problems)
"Yes, we've been and we've been going through it. Obviously, I haven't gotten to the right answer yet, but we'll find the right answer."
(On if at some point he has to evaluate the quarterback position)
"We have to evaluate everybody on the field."
(On how QB Colin Kaepernick played today)
"I'm not going to get into all that today, I'll get into that after we've had the opportunity to watch the tape."
(On what he means when taking responsibility for the team's play)
"I know everything that's getting called in those games, so it's me. It starts and stops with me."
(On if their game plan was good today)
"Obviously, today it wasn't good enough."
(On why RB Carlos Hyde was inactive today)
"He was sore. I listened to the trainers on that."
(On if Hyde will play next week vs. Atlanta)
"That's been week-to-week, day-to-day. That's the way it's been."
(On if he has any comments regarding how Bush was injured)
"No sir, I did not see it."
(On if he's hopeful that Hayne will continue his NFL career)
"Yes."
(On what he hopes to see Hayne do in his future)
"I'm a Jarryd fan."
(On if he considered changing quarterbacks today)
"I'm not going to get into the personnel, and I'm not going to get into it there, either."
(On releasing Hayne)
"Jarryd Hayne has done everything we've asked him to do. I made the decision to bring up a power back for the game today. We only have 53 spots and I made that decision."
(On why the running game was not efficient today)
"It wasn't. We weren't blocking, we weren't running. We weren't getting it done."
(On if Kaepernick has the authority to check out of plays to put the team in a better position)
"Yes."
(On if Kaepernick should have checked out of a run and into a pass to an uncovered WR Torrey Smith before the safety)
"I have to go back and look at that play."
(On if he saw that play develop)
"I saw it there, yes."
(On if the penalties today were a result of something the Rams did on defense)
"The majority of our penalties, I believe, came on special teams and hurt our field position."
(On how difficult it is to remain optimistic this year)
"You have no choice. This is where we are. This is who we are and we need to get better - period."
