49ers trade Vernon Davis to Denver Broncos

Well, things just got interesting! Adam Schefter is reporting the San Francisco 49ers have traded Vernon Davis to the Denver Broncos. The 49ers are trading Davis, will swap sixth and seventh round picks in 2016, and the 49ers get the Broncos 6th round pick in 2017.

The move is not surprising as the 49ers are going to need to rebuild for the future, and the Broncos are running out of time to win a Super Bowl with Peyton Manning. They need help at tight end, and Davis might be able to provide something for them. Davis struggled most of last season, and much of this season, but he had a solid game against the Seahawks in Week 7, and followed that up with a decent effort against the St. Louis Rams.

The 49ers will now move forward with Vance McDonald, Garrett Celek and Blake Bell as their three tight ends. Celek is in the concussion protocol this week, so the team might add another tight end. One option would be to promote Busta Anderson from the practice squad, but we'll see how Celek progresses through the concussion protocol.
