Fooch's note: Site decorum will be off in all posts for today (Monday) given all the insanity. Site decorum is back in place Tuesday barring more breaking news.
The San Francisco 49ers running back depth chart is facing a whole lo of turmoil. We still don't have official confirmation, but Matt Barrows is now reporting rookie Mike Davis will have surgery on Tuesday to repair a fractured hand. Jim Tomsula was asked about the hand injury earlier on Monday, but said Davis was still getting it looked at.
There is no word yet on how much time Davis will miss, but surgery likely indicates an absence of at least modest length. Ian Rapoport tweeted the team will know more once surgery is completed. The 49ers announced the signing of Shaun Draughn Monday afternoon, so right now Draughn and Kendall Gaskins are the only healthy running backs on the team. That is most definitely not an ideal situation. Jarryd Hayne could still be re-signed following his clearing of waivers, but it is also possible he ends up spending the rest of the season on the practice squad.
If you thought this team had hit rock bottom, the lows continue sinking.
