Fooch's note: Site decorum will be off in all posts for today (Monday) given all the insanity. Site decorum is back in place Tuesday barring more breaking news.
The San Francisco 49ers will be signing running back Jarryd Hayne to the practice squad. Hayne announced it on Twitter. The 49ers waived Hayne on Saturday, and he cleared waivers Monday at 1 p.m. PT. That means none of the other 31 teams wanted to add him to their 53-man roster. That made him a free agent, which meant he could sign with any practice squad.
Hayne suggested on Saturday he would return barring any team claiming him on waivers. He returns to the practice squad to spend the rest of the season working on his techniques. He has the raw skills that allowed him to shine in the preseason. Now, he will continue working on developing the techniques that will allow him to improve as a return man, and become a more capable running back. And of course, he can work on his ball security.
While he is signed with the 49ers practice squad, the rules allow Hayne to sign with any other team's 53-man roster the rest of the season. My guess is he is not going anywhere, and will be back next spring and summer to compete for a roster spot.
