Sitting at 3-7, the last 6 games of this season for the Niners will be a look at their future roster. Due to poor play and injuries, young players will get more chances in the final games. Experience in games for these players will be beneficial for the future of the 49ers.
Regardless of the small sample size, Blaine Gabbert looks to be a much different QB from his time in Jacksonville. Quick decision making, athletic ability, and a good grasp of the offense will have the Niners looking at Gabbert as a candidate for the QB position. With Kap injured and rumors of his potential departure from the team floating in the media, having Gabbert play well gives them a viable option for next year. Along with Gabbert, Andrew Tiller has played well. He has knocked Jordan Devey out of the lineup and solidified the offensive line. The line had played horribly with Devey consistently being a weak spot. Since Tiller has been inserted, the unit has played much better.
On defense, injuries have allowed young players to play. Jaquiski Tartt, Marcus Cromartie, and Arik Armstead had their roles expanded and it will be good to see what they can bring. Tartt has played well when given the opportunity except for Sunday, but no one on defense played well in Seattle. He could push for a starting job next season. Cromartie is an aggressive corner and not afraid to mix it up in the run defense. Armstead will be given more playing time with Glenn Dorsey out. He was exclusively a pass rusher, but we will now see how he stacks up in the run game.
