Daniel Kilgore's return status remains up in the air

Will we see Daniel Kilgore at some point this season? It seems unlikely this weekend, as he remains on the PUP list heading into the weekend.

The San Francisco 49ers have not activated Daniel Kilgore from the PUP yet, and his status for Sunday's game remains a bit of a mystery. Kilgore returned to practice a week and a half ago, and the team has through the end of Week 13 to either activate him to the 53-man roster, or place him on season-ending injured reserve. They have until 1 p.m. PT on Saturday to do it for their Week 12 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals.

Kilgore has two weeks of practice under his belt at this point, and he indicated he is feeling better each week. When he was first discussing his return last week, he said he would like to be activated for the Week 11 Seahawks game, but he understood it would take longer than that given how much time he missed.

It is entirely possible the 49ers are playing their cards close to the vest, and will wait until the last minute to activate him to the roster. Or, he could end up getting shut down for the year if they lose to Arizona. The team is already struggling, and unlikely to make the playoffs. A loss to the Cardinals would effectively stick a fork in it, as they would be 3-8, and 0-5 in the division. If that happens, maybe they just shut down Kilgore and look to next season.
