We're back for another round of NFL picks against the spread! For the second straight season, I am back for the LVH SuperContest. SB Nation's partners over at Odds Shark are sponsoring my entry again. The contest requires selecting 5 games each week and picking them against the spread. This year's contest is expected to have nearly 1,400 participants, including myself, Matt Ufford and Eric Sollenberger from SB Nation. Everybody picks their own five games and there will be a running leaderboard HERE. You can follow my standings under the name "Fooch".
Last year, I finished 39-45-1. This year, I'm off to a decent start. I put together three straight 4-1 weeks, slipped to 3-2, bounced back to 3-1-1, followed that with back-to-back 3-2 weeks, slipped to 2-2-1, bounced back with a 4-1 performance, and then slipped to 2-3. Last week, I bounced back modestly with a 3-2 performance. The Eagles were stomped by Tampa Bay, and the Dolphins came up short against Tony Romo and the Cowboys. Such is life. I am currently 35-18-2 through eleven weeks. Again, the cushion remains for my inevitable fall! I went 8-5-1 overall ATS with my picks in a week loaded with underdog victories.
Here are my SuperContest picks for Week 12:
TEXANS (-3) over Saints
WASHINGTON (+3) over Giants
TITANS (+1.5) over Raiders
CHIEFS (-6.5) over Bills
Chargers (+4) over JAGUARS
I really have no idea what to make of this weekend's 49ers-Cardinals game. I am picking the 49ers to cover, although I did not include it in my SuperContest picks. I really do think the 49ers defense shows up in a much better fashion than last week. I think the Cardinals probably win this, with the 49ers keeping it close and losing late. The 49ers have done well at home against Arizona for some time now, and I think it continues this week.
For my picks, I mixed in three different underdogs. It leaves me a little trepidatious, but we're reaching a point in this thing where I might have to reach a little. I went with Washington because Kirk Cousins has been performing better at home than on the road. They lost Chris Culliver to a torn ACL/MCL, so that has me worried against Odell Beckham Jr. and company, but I think Washington can keep this close in a shootout.
The fighting Alex Smith's are playing solid football lately. That probably means they stumble against Buffalo, but I'll roll with them for one more week at home. Just gotta win by a touchdown. As for the Chargers? I can't pass on a chance to get four points from the Jaguars. San Diego has been pretty bad this season, so again, it leaves me a little trepidatious, but I'll take my chances.
