The San Francisco 49ers now second-string quarterback, Colin Kaepernick, will meet with the media on Friday to discuss this week's benching. Word got out Monday night that Kaepernick was going to sit for this weekend' game against the Atlanta Falcons. The starting quarterback normally speaks on Wednesday, and once Jim Tomsula made the news official at his morning press conference, the 49ers made it known Blaine Gabbert would speak.
Kap will get plenty of questions about how he feels about the decision, and what he can do with the time now serving as the backup. Whether we get helpful answers remains to be seen, but it will be an interesting discussion nonetheless.
We still have eight more games of 49ers football left this season, but at some point the 49ers will need to make a decision about the future of the quarterback position. Kap's contract includes no more future guarantees, and instead his salaries become fully guaranteed April 1 of each year. That gives the 49ers until April 1 to make a decision. They could release or trade him, or they could restructure his contract and bring him back for the 2016 season.
With that in mind, I wanted to put together a quick poll. Do you think Colin Kaepernick will be on the 49ers roster when Week 1 of the 2016 regular season arrives? We'll get into potential replacements, or what the situation might entail, but for now, will he be on the 49ers 53-man roster next September?
