49ers WR DeAndre Smelter continuing to do work on NFI list

The San Francisco 49ers wrapped up their final practice session of the week as they prepare for the Atlanta Falcons. While the 53-man roster spent the week implementing the game plan for Sunday, wide receiver DeAndre Smelter continues his rehab process. The 49ers rookie wide receiver suffered a torn ACL last season, and is one of Trent Baalke's all-ACL squad players. He is currently on the NFI list, and while his practice window might be activated, he will not spend a day of this season on the 49ers 53-man roster.

Smelter cannot practice with the team right now, but he continues to do work with the training staff. That includes basic rehab, route running, pass catching, and more. The goal is likely to have him at 100 percent and ready to open up when the team begins their offseason workout program next spring.

In the meantime, local media were able to get some Instagram videos of Smelter doing work on the side. He is wearing a weight vest and catching footballs in all three videos. The latter two feature him running short routes and doing a modest amount of cutting.
