49ers promote Marcus Cromartie, Chris Davis, move Mike Davis, L.J. McCray to injury lists

The San Francisco 49ers cornerback depth chart is not pretty heading into Week 9. The 49ers promoted two players from the practice squad to fill it out.

The San Francisco 49ers made four roster moves on Saturday in preparation for Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons. The team announced that running back Mike Davis has been placed on injured reserve with the return designation, and safety L.J. McCray has been placed on season-ending injured reserve. Cornerbacks Marcus Cromartie and Chris Davis have been promoted from the practice squad to fill their spots.

The cornerback promotions make sense with Friday's injury report. Kenneth Acker, Tramaine Brock and Keith Reaser are all listed as questionable for Sunday's game. Acker suffered a concussion this past week, and did not practice this week. Reaser is dealing with an ankle injury that left him limited for Thursday and Friday practices. Brock suffered a shin injury that left him limited all three practices this week.

Dontae Johnson is the only healthy cornerback, alongside nickel back Jimmie Ward. Acker seems like the least likely of the three cornerbacks to play, but Brock and Reaser could be out as well. The 49ers face a fairly stout Falcons passing attack, albeit one without Leonard Hankerson in the lineup. Julio Jones can do plenty of damage on his own, and Roddy White likely still has a little something left in the tank.
