Jim Tomsula will not commit to 49ers starting quarterback vs. Seahawks

The San Francisco 49ers secured a much-needed win over the Atlanta Falcons, and new starting quarterback Blaine Gabbert was a big part of the victory. He only threw for 185 yards, but he led a pair of scoring drives that capped off with touchdown passes to Garrett Celek.

After the game, Jim Tomsula was asked about Gabbert's status for after the bye, but he would not commit to anything. He said Gabbert was their starter for this game (vs. Falcons), but he would not comment any further. The 49ers have a bye this week, so there will be plenty of time to break down the film and figure out what is next.

Of course, I don't think anybody expects Colin Kaepernick to get back into the starting lineup against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 11. Gabbert did just enough, and that will buy him at least one more game. Personally, I don't think Kaepernick will see the field again the rest of this year barring a complete meltdown by Gabbert. The 49ers will keep him on the sideline and then part ways in the offseason. I remain convinced of that, and honestly, even a bad Gabbert performance today would not have changed my mind.
