The Niners lost 19-13 to the NFC West leading Arizona Cardinals in a penalty filled football game at Levi's Stadium. The Niners were penalized 13 times for 81 yards, which gave the Cardinals 7 first downs. The most crucial call was the roughing the passer call on Quinton Dial's sack of Carson Palmer that gave the Cardinals a new set of downs on the game winning drive. Carson seemed to lower his head into Quinton Dial's helmet that forced the helmet to helmet contact. A soft call that allowed the Cardinals to continue their drive.

Blaine Gabbert had another decent game. He finished 25 of 36 for 318 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 pick. Unfortunately, the offense could only score 13 points, which will not win many games. A running theme of the offense is the inability to score in the 1st quarter especially at home. It took the offense until the last play of the half to score their 1st points courtesy of Phil Dawson's leg.

The defense continued its erratic play. They completely stifled one of the league's best offenses. Carson Palmer didn't throw a touchdown for the 1st time this season. The rush defense only allowed 70 yards. But the team didn't record a turnover for a 3rd straight game. Tramaine Brock completely dropped what should have been an easy interception, that allowed the Cardinals to kick a field goal. The defense held firm all game to allow the team to win, but the Niners couldn't win it.
