Golden Nuggets: Tripped Up in Cleveland

Monday, December 14, 2015 edition of the Golden Nuggets, a daily compilation of 49ers links from around the web.

Whoops. So that happened. Fresh from a thrilling overtime road victory in Chicago, the 49ers arrived in Cleveland looking for their first winning streak of the season. Except they ran into a juggernaut called the Browns; the same one that has lost seven games in a row prior to this game. Yes it was that bad. Most of us can understand losing on the road. I mean even the Golden State Warriors had their 24 game streak stopped by Milwaukee. But to be thoroughly dominated and blown out by the worst team in the league says something about this San Francisco team, and none of it is good.

Nine sacks. Nine. Blaine Gabbert did an admirable job avoiding them in his first four starts, but the law of averages demanded payback and that debt was cashed in and then some. This was easily Blaine Gabbert's worst start as a 49er and it's not really a big surprise coming after his struggles in Chicago for most of the game. What this shows is that this roster is still lacking in experienced talent and injuries have wiped out whatever perceived depth there was. So expect more inconsistent play for the rest of the season. It's a must if you want to retain your sanity as a 49ers fan.
