The San Francisco 49ers made some roster moves Tuesday afternoon, adding two players to the practice squad and waiving one player. The team waived linebacker Kevin Snyder (KSWOF!), signed tight end Jamie Childers, and reinstated defensive lineman Kaleb Ramsey.
The reinstatement of Ramsey comes after he served a four week suspension for violating the league's policy on performance enhancing drugs. We never heard what PED was involved (I'm sure he'll say Adderall), but the suspension is complete. The defensive lineman was viewed as a solid talent coming out of Boston College, but injuries have been a significant issue. He spent his first season on the PUP list, and was on the practice squad this season before his suspension.
Childers is the second tight end on the practice squad, joining Brian Leonhardt. The addition of Childers likely means Garrett Celek will not be playing this week, and potentially longer. The first practice participation report will arrive Wednesday afternoon, and odds are pretty good Celek will be a DNP. If Celek does not participate the rest of the week, either Childers or Leonhardt can be promoted as late as Saturday afternoon to give the team a third tight end. I suspect we see such a move.
The 49ers practice squad is now a full ten-man unit, and looks as follows:
QB McLeod Bethel-Thompson
WR DiAndre Campbell
TE Jamie Childers
OT Donald Hawkins
RB Jarryd Hayne
TE Brian Leonhardt
DT Kaleb Ramsey
OLB Marcus Rush
NT Garrison Smith
S Jermaine Whitehead
