NaVorro Bowman, Joe Staley named to 2016 Pro Bowl roster

The San Francisco 49ers only have one player named to the initial Pro Bowl roster, but it's a big one. Congrats to NaVorro Bowman on the first year of his comeback.

Good news! San Francisco 49ers inside linebacker NaVorro Bowman has been voted onto the 2016 Pro Bowl roster. Bowman was third in ILB fan voting, but the players and coaches put him over the top for a trip to Hawaii. The game is scheduled for January 31, 2016 in Honolulu. The roster will be split up into two teams on January 27, when team captains make their picks.

Fooch's update: Joe Staley is joining Bowman in Hawaii! We'll have more on it, but I'll be honest, this caught me a little bit by surprise. Nonetheless, congrats to Joe!

This is Bowman's third selection to the Pro Bowl. He was selected following during the  2012 and 2013 seasons. He did not play in the first one because the 49ers were in the Super Bowl, and he did not play in the second one because of his knee injury. I would expect Bowman to sit out this game to recover from his first season back from the knee injury, but we'll find out what his plan is in the coming weeks.

Whether he plays or not, this is a fantastic honor for Bowman. A Pro Bowl selection is not an All Pro type of honor, but it is still great to see him in the Pro Bowl after such a devastating knee injury. He could very well show further improvement in his second year back, but to lead the league in tackles this year, and get the fan and player vote is awesome. It's been an ugly season for the 49ers, but Bowman has been one of the few bright spots. He will hopefully improve in the coming seasons, but for this being his first year back, it was one heck of a comeback.
