Anquan Boldin catches 1000th career reception

The San Francisco 49ers have not had a lot go right this season, but we do have a little something to celebrate in Week 16. Wide receiver Anquan Boldin reached a huge milestone against the Detroit Lions, as he hauled in his 1,000th career reception. It came on the first play of the game. Congrats to Anquan!

Boldin had 999 receptions coming into the game, so it is not surprising the offense quickly got him No. 1,000. He is the fifth fastest player to reach the mark, and is now tied with Hines Ward for No. 12 on the all-time receptions list. His next reception will move him into sole possession of the 12 spot. Next up is Larry Fitzgerald with 1,008 receptions, then Jason Witten with 1,013, and then Isaac Bruce with 1,024.

Boldin is unlikely to get to Bruce by the end of next week, but he has said he plans on playing in 2016. Fitzgerald and Witten will likely remain ahead of Boldin, but there are some names he could potentially still catch if he plays another couple seasons. Here are the top eight pass catchers in NFL history:

1. Jerry Rice - 1,549
2. Tony Gonzalez - 1,325
3. Marvin Harrison - 1,102
4. Cris Carter - 1,101
5. Tim Brown - 1,094
6. Terrell Owens - 1,078
7. Reggie Wayne - 1,070 - Active
8. Andre Johnson - 1,046 - Active
