The three years it took to take the Niners out of NFL purgatory back into respectability has been flushed down in 1 year. The Niners are a real life mid-afternoon soap opera. Jim Harbaugh came out of silence and told us what we all knew to be true. Niners management fired him. There was no "mutual parting" as Jed York liked to say over and over again. Ownership threw away a great coach, but we still have no idea why.
Another report came out about Vic Fangio and Adam Gase. Reportedly, Fangio would have stayed as the Niners defensive coordinator if Gase was hired as head coach, but management wanted to promote Jim Tomsula to defensive coordinator and Gase didn't want him as his coordinator. Management decided it was better to promote a position coach to head coach than hire an offensive minded coach and keep one, if not the best defensive coordinators in the NFL. Doesn't make management look very good right about now, but that's not really news, is it?
In other news, Frank Gore took to social media about his future. He seems to want to come back to the Niners, but he is questioning management's desire for him to come back. As much as I'd like Frank to retire a Niner, I don't think it's going to happen. Keeping a job as a running back is hard, but keeping a job as a 30+ year old running back is becoming extinct in the NFL. If he accepts a backup role and little money, the team may keep him. The starting RB position is now Carlos Hyde's job. Frank is in a tough situation.
