A listing has shown up on RedFin.com for an estate at 4020 Higuera Road, in San Jose, California. If you are not familiar with that address, it belongs to San Francisco 49ers outside linebacker Aldon Smith. It was the scene of his "stabbing", an event that eventually led to the gun charges that were pled out last year. Here is the description of the listing:
Unique opportunity to own one of the largest estates with views of the entire South Bay. This custom designed home features a lifestyle fit for a king. Gated private entrance to this sprawling estate includes a large 3 car garage, top of the line home movie theater, interior design features, multiple bedrooms w baths, formal office, large resort like pool/spa, kids play area, multiple outdoor kitchens with outdoor and indoor fireplaces. Solar panels onsite, low utility bills. Horse stable - gated land.
Smith has one year left on his contract, after the 49ers elected to exercise the fifth year option on his rookie contract. The 49ers made that decision last offseason, but have one more decision coming soon. The option is worth $9.754 million, and was immediately guaranteed for injury upon exercise. However, it is not fully guaranteed until next month when the new league year starts on March 10. That means the 49ers can still decide to release Smith and let him become a free agent.
Smith seemed to avoid trouble this past season as he served his suspension and reportedly met the community service requirements for his plea deal. The offseason is always the bigger concern when there is all sorts of free time in which one can get into trouble. The 49ers offseason workout program begins in early April, but even with that, there is still a lot of downtime between now and training camp. There is no doubting Smith has a world of talent. For me, it's just a matter of keeping my fingers crossed that he does not get into any trouble in the meantime.
