The second day of team press conferences has kicked off, and San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Tomsula will be one of the coaches speaking on Thursday. Tomsula is scheduled to meet with the media at 9:30 a.m. PT. I'm not entirely sure if NFL Network will air the press conference live, but you can watch it on 49ers.com/live and NFL.com's LIVE feed. The latter was having some issues yesterday, but 49ers.com was working fairly well. The microphone for questioners was not great, but we had no problem hearing Trent Baalke answer.
While I certainly was intrigued to hear what Baalke had to say (even if he gave away very little), it is safe to say plenty of people will have an eye on Jim Tomsula. The 49ers new head coach did the media rounds after his promotion was announced, but we have not seen much since then. He had some downs to go with his ups during the media rounds, but he has had a month to get settled in to the new role.
He'll get questions about his new coaching staff, but I have to think we can also expect a question or two about Jim Harbaugh's podcast with Tim Kawakami. Tomsula likely has had a chance to speak with Justin Smith and other roster question marks. While he does not have final say on what happens with those players, he likely can speak to what they are thinking. Particularly Justin Smith given the relationship they've built on the defensive line.
We should have a transcript later this afternoon, but in the meantime we'll get something together with anything particularly notable from the press conference.
