NFL Combine 2015: Time, how to watch online and prospects for Saturday, Day 2

New, comments

We provide prospect links, how to watch information, invitee list, combine schedule, and some players of note performing in drills. Who do you want the 49ers to draft? Who is your sleeper?

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

The NFL Combine has no mercy for those who aren't morning people. The quarterbacks, wide receivers, and running backs will be in action on this Saturday morning. The 49ers have needs up and down the roster so each day has significance as to how this draft will shake out.  All the positions today vary in need.. with the level of importance going from wideout, to running back, then lastly a backup quarterback that can push Colin Kaepernick.

Today, the last two Heisman winners, Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota, will be throwing to a decent crop of receivers. The 49ers are in a good spot to trade up and land the receiver they want, or to even let one fall into their lap. Oklahoma's Dorial Green-Beckham will be a name that will continue to be linked to the 49ers after practicing with Colin Kaepernick. West Virginia's Kevin White will be looking to run in the sub 4.55 range to cement his status in the draft. The ever polished Bama receiver Amare Cooper should perform well and consistently well today. We will talk about many other names in our wrap up post for Offense on Monday.

Until then, I will say that a receiver should be selected in round one. This receiver should be the opposite of A.J. Jenkins. Strong. Tall. Fast. Reliable hands. Options can be had that could energize the 49ers fan base to believe that success is attainable both short and long term for the franchise. My favorite drill today is the gauntlet drill. It is a great indicator of the success a receiver can have running, catching the football, and not breaking stride. Last year Sammy Watkins and Brandin Cooks excelled in this drill. The year before Tavon Austin was my favorite. I'll also be interested to see how quarterbacks Jameis Winston and Bryce Petty do, after they spent a short time with Jim Harbaugh preparing for the combine.

The running back drills are fun and all and have purpose, but my favorite thing to watch out of those will be the forty times. Will this be the year someone overtakes Chris Johnson's record setting time of 4.24? The top three forty times of the WR, RB, CB pool will receive $100,000. Rich Eisen is running for charity this year, otherwise I sure would love to challenge him to a forty time competition for that amount of money. Melvin Gordon is my favorite back in the draft, but there are many options behind him that have high potential. A running back will be drafted round one this year.

* If you have a sleeper to proclaim, if you have a favorite in the action today, now is the perfect time to tell us who you want the 49ers to draft! I know this group isn't shy. For me, I am cool with the 49ers drafting Dorial Green-Beckham in round one. Unless you can change my mind.
