Earlier this week, Dan Kadar put together a mock draft that mixed in some trades to shake things up a bit. He mixed in some trades, and the resulting picks had the San Francisco 49ers selecting defensive lineman Arik Armstead at No. 15. The 49ers could use defensive line help, particularly if Justin Smith retires, and Armstead is certainly the kind of talent that could do some things under Jim Tomsula and Scott Brown.
And now it looks like the 49ers at least have him on their radar. According to Eric Branch, the 49ers have a meeting scheduled Saturday evening with Armstead. Defensive linemen and linebackers did their bench press Saturday, and media obligations Friday and Saturday. They will conduct their workouts on Sunday, and then head their separate ways. Tonight likely marks the last night such players will meet with teams.
Once we get through all this, the easiest way to deal with these names might just be to remove them from our expected draft options. The 49ers have drafted players they've visited with in the past, but they are far and few between. This might make sense as the list of players not to get too excited about in advance of April's draft.
