After the wide receivers, the biggest area of need for the Niners in the draft has to be cornerback. The Niners have 2 free agents in Perrish Cox and Chris Culliver. While I think the team will try to keep one, they will still need to draft a corner. Out of the two corners, Culliver is the most coveted. He has good size and the skills that are coveted by teams. He had the better season out of the two. Corners are paid handsomely and he may be too expensive to keep. Cox may be a more realistic option to resign.
If neither corner resigns, the Niners will only have Tramaine Brock, Dontae Johnson, Kenneth Acker, and Keith Reaser. This is an area of need. Some draft analysts have the Niners actually selecting a corner in the 1st round. The top corners could be there to be selected with the 15th pick. And the team may have to select one because it seems to be a less than stellar draft for corners, according to most analysts.
While I prefer that the Niners pick a wideout with their 1st pick, I really can't argue with the logic with picking a cornerback. Both areas need help and this draft may have good receivers throughout. But after seeing the Niners missing out on a great WR draft last year, I want to see them pick one this year.
