Black Monday is officially behind us. Yesterday was one of the craziest days in franchise history, and for many, it is on a short list for worst days in franchise history. Steve Young's final concussion and losing the Super Bowl are probably the two worst, but Monday was definitely rough.
The good news is today is a new day. And more importantly, it is a huge day in the offseason. The new league year kicks off this afternoon at 1 p.m. PT, at which point free agents can sign with news teams, and trades can become official. We have heard plenty of rumors over the last few days, but we will finally start to see some actual resolution, and not just speculation.
The San Francisco 49ers are likely losing quite a few players to free agency, but they are also clearing enough salary cap space to be potentially significant players in the coming days. The team has signed DT Darnell Dockett and WR Jerome Simpson, and numerous rumors have them set to sign WR Torrey Smith when free agency opens. The 49ers are going to have a lot of new faces in the starting lineup this fall, and today is the first real step toward setting that roster.
I will update this with tweets as news breaks, and will keep it locked up in the cover for general discussion about all the news. When the 49ers make a move, or something particularly notable happens around the league, there will be a new post for that. However, you can continue discussion across all free agency topics in here. At the bottom of the page, I have dropped in a Twitter feed of the NFL Media list I follow.
