49ers not expected to re-sign Perrish Cox

It would appear the San Francisco 49ers will definitely be losing one of their two starting cornerbacks. We have the latest news on Cox.

It appears the San Francisco 49ers will be replacing at least one cornerback for sure. Kyle McLorg from BASG is reporting Perrish Cox believes the team is unlikely to re-sign him. Kyle described it as follows:

According to a source close to Cox, the cornerback said he believes the 49ers aren't interested in paying what it takes to retain his services in 2015.

We don't know what kind of numbers Cox is looking for, but given his solid 2014 season, it would not be surprising if he wanted more than the 49ers were willing to offer. Cox is 28 and coming off the best season of his career. It makes sense for him to try and cash in while he can.

While Cox had the interceptions early in the season, I still believe Chris Culliver was the better cornerback over the course of the whole season. At this point, I would be surprised if either cornerback returned in 2015. Culliver is likely going to command more than Cox, and I think the 49ers are more inclined to go a bit younger and inexpensive at the position.
