A day after we learned the San Francisco 49ers might have some interest in Reggie Bush, the former Detroit Lions running back is scheduled to visit the team. Bush will be in town Wednesday, according to numerous reports first hit by Jason LaCanfora.
The 49ers saw Frank Gore agree to terms with the Indianapolis Colts on Tuesday, which leaves them with Carlos Hyde, Kendall Hunter and practice squad player Kendall Gaskins on their running back depth chart. There has been some chatter about the 49ers being interested in C.J. Spiller as well. Either player would likely be viewed as more of a change of pace back for Carlos Hyde than the starter. In that case, Bush would be the more inexpensive option.
Would you prefer Spiller or Bush? From a cap perspective, while Spiller would cost more, I don't see it being a particularly cap-crippling hit. But I also would be surprised if the 49ers were willing to go where Spiller potentially views himself. Even before the Buffalo Bills acquired LeSean McCoy, Spiller admitted that money would play a significant part in his decision process. I can't blame him for that one bit, but I also think that likely ends up pricing him out of the 49ers market.
