Good morning everyone. The 49ers lost troubled but talented cornerback Chris Culliver yesterday to Washington. They also seem content to let Perrish Cox, who was in Tennessee yesterday, walk. With both of their two best CBs from last season set to walk, Trent Baalke is apparently going to patch the position with duct tape and cardboard. The trend was set last season when starting corners Tarell Brown and Carlos Rogers both left for Oakland. That decision ended up working out as both Chris Culliver and Perrish Cox overcame relative mediocrity and some pretty serious baggage to have good seasons. Maybe this success has made Trent Baalke arrogant, but I would be scared to let my starting corners and my highly regarded secondary coach walk when I have the means to keep them.
You know, I'm going to miss Chris Culliver. The injuries, the homophobic comments at the Suberbowl, and the dust up with the cyclist and brass knuckles all made it hard to like or rely on him as a player. But despite all those issues, he was a good player through it all. His draft class was the first one I took a really good look at, and Culliver was the first non superstar prospect I ever fell in love with after watching his tape. I still think he can be an elite corner, and I maintain to this day he could be an even better safety. So despite it all, I'll miss you Cully, good luck in Washington. To the links!
