The San Francisco 49ers search for one more comp pick continues as wide receiver Michael Crabtree is set to visit with the Miami Dolphins. Yahoo! Sports NFL reporter Rand Getlin is reporting the visit is scheduled for today. Crabtree has been connected to the San Diego Chargers and Washington, but this is his first reported visit.
The Dolphins acquired Kenny Stills in a trade, and dealt Mike Wallace to the Minnesota Vikings. They also have Jarvis Landry, Rishard Matthews, Matt Hazel, Michael Preston and Tyler McDonald. Adding Crabtree would be a solid addition to that group.
There has been very little mention of Crabtree in free agency, but all indications are that he will end up elsewhere. For the 49ers, this means there is still the chance to add a comp pick in 2016. The team is currently looking at a 4th and 6th 5th for Chris Culliver and Perrish Cox. Mike Iupati, Dan Skuta and Frank Gore have been offset by the signings of Shareece Wright, Torrey Smith and Erik Pears.
Over The Cap is working on comp pick projections, and right now, the lowest salary qualifying for a 7th round comp pick is Christian Ponder at $2,250,000. The projections are far from official, but it gives us a ballpark idea. We are officially rooting for a nice little contract for Michael Crabtree. Big money, no whammies!
