Chris Borland interview with CBS This Morning discussing 49ers retirement

Former San Francisco 49ers linebacker Chris Borland conducted his first live interview since announcing his retirement from the National Football League. Given how high profile this decision was, Borland is a highly sought after interview.

Some fans have questioned his decision, with some going so far as to say he should have told the 49ers before the draft. Those people are mistaken in the timeline of this. In this interview, Borland talks about how at the time he was drafted, he thought he wanted to play a normal career. It was the hit in training camp that got him re-considering things. It sounds like he really started researching this after the season and that crystalized his decision.

Borland does not really add much to what we already know. While others have pointed to him as a tipping point or something like that, he does not seem to have the same view. I have seen people saying they expect him to write a book or do something else to cash in on this, but for now, that does not seem to be the case. Yes, he did the interview, but given how big this has become, that is not really a surprising development.
