Monday evening Bay Area time, rugby league star Jarryd Hayne announced he will sign a contract with the San Francisco 49ers in his attempt to make a name for himself in the NFL. Hayne visited three NFL teams in December, but he also conducted a Pro Day for a variety of scouts. He ran through the basic measurements, measuring in at 6'2, 226 pounds, and running a 4.53 40.
However, as the video above shows, he also showed some of what he could do in a couple roles. He took some handoffs and pitches as a running back, while also catching passes coming out of the backfield. That was followed by Hayne handling a variety of punt returns. None of this was done in pads, so we certainly have to take it with a serious grain of salt. Nonetheless, it is good to see he is already starting to get ready to make that transition to the NFL. Now we see what happens when he puts on pads.
