The San Francisco 49ers are continuing their look at NFL Draft prospects with a small school wide receiver. Matt Barrows is reporting the team is bringing in wide receiver Ricky Collins for an official visit. Collins attended Texas A&M-Commerce, and at a recent Pro Day (I'd assume for another school) he measured in at 6'0, 198 pounds. I am not seeing any 40 time or any other measurements.
Collins appears to be someone who should be on our radar as a potential undrafted free agent, or maybe seventh round pick. Collins spent one season at Division II TAMUC, and finished the season with 71 receptions for 1,187 yards and 14 touchdowns. He sat out the 2013 season after transferring from Midwestern State. Prior to the 2012 season at Midwestern State, he spent two seasons at Kilgore Junior College.
There is not a whole lot out there about Collins, but I came across an interview at Draft Diamonds, and then a few comments at this D-2 football site:
Collins has great hands and is a very good route runner. He doesn't quite have the game breaking speed of Johnson but he is fast enough to pick up yards after the catch. The attention he deserves has not quite come his way due to the fact he did not play in 2013. He wasn't in my rankings in August but vaulted all the way in my top 7 by October.
