49ers 90-man roster vs. '14 training camp roster vs. '14 final cuts

The San Francisco 49ers made a pair of roster moves this week, releasing offensive tackle Jonathan Martin and cornerback Cameron Fuller. That reduces their roster to 71 players. That leaves room for 19 players between the draft, undrafted free agency, and any other veterans the team might add.

A week ago, I put together a table looking at the 49ers current roster versus the roster they had at the start of training camp last year. I decided to put another version of that together today, but with an addition. This time, I have added a third column looking at the 53-man roster immediately after the team's first roster cuts last year.

It is interesting to look at those cuts because they had a lot of exceptions. The two most notable were that Alex Boone was still listed as reserve/not reported, and Aldon Smith was on the suspended list. The team had Glenn Dorsey on the roster, but a few days later they moved him to the short term injured reserve. For the short term though, it gave us a handle on what they were keeping at various positions.

Also, I swapped Erik Pears from guard to tackle, and Fou Fonoti from tackle to guard. Fonoti generally is viewed as a guard, while Pears seems a logical candidate for the swing tackle role.
