Free agent defensive tackle Darnell Dockett is expected to make a decision on his future today, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The former Arizona Cardinals defensive tackle is expected to decide between the Cardinals and the San Francisco 49ers. Schefter also said the St. Louis Rams and Seattle Seahawks are interested.
It is interesting that the entire NFC West might be after Dockett, but nobody else appears to be in the mix. Prior to being released, Dockett had tweeted that he would be back in Arizona next season whether it be for one game or eight games. While the Cardinals do have other teams coming to Arizona in 2015, this news that the four potential teams are all in the NFC West is not surprising.
My guess is it will all come down to money. The Cardinals reportedly offered him a one-year deal for $2.5 million with incentives that could bring it to $4 million. Of course, the source of that information could be somebody in Dockett's camp, looking to boost the value of other offers. That report came out the day he was scheduled to arrive in the Bay Area. If the 49ers do not land him, odds are pretty good they did not exceed that number, or at least somewhere in that ballpark.
