Details are starting to emerge for the contract of Jarryd Hayne, one of the newest members of the San Francisco 49ers. The team signed him to a three-year contract, and Hayne indicated he received $100,000 in guaranteed money. ESPN's Field Yates is reporting his total guarantee is $116,000.
I had this exchange with Field about the situation.
As you can see from the brief discussion I had with Yates, the deal seems to indicate Hayne is guaranteed at least a spot on the practice squad. He would need to clear waivers, and plenty can change between now and the end of August. If Hayne does not make the 53-man roster, the practice squad has ten spots. The team still has to draft their rookie class, and sign underrated free agents. My guess is Hayne ends up on the practice squad, but we'll see what the incoming rookies bring to the table.
Here are some more specific numbers on Hayne's deal, courtesy of Aaron Wilson.
