Golden Nuggets: Tampering period underway

Sunday, March 8th, 2015 edition of the Golden Nuggets, a daily compilation of San Francisco 49ers links from around the Internet.

Winslow Townson-USA TODAY Sports

Good morning folks! The official tampering period of free agency is here, which means teams can talk to pending free agents and get a feeling for value and expected contracts. It also means that, unofficially, half the big-name free agents on the market are going to have handshake deals in place for when free agency gets underway proper at the start of the new league year on Tuesday.

Thus far, it's been a fairly mellow period as far as the San Francisco 49ers are concerned. They've made some moves over the past few days, but thus far have only shown reported interest in guys like running back C.J. Spiller and Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith. It's also possible they wanted in on the Randall Cobb sweepstakes, but he signed a four-year deal with the Green Bay Packers and I remain unconvinced that they offered him more than he's going to make there.

Anyway, I'm just going to get to your links. Be sure to keep up with our rumors tracker. Enjoy.
