Golden Nuggets: Frank Will Do it 'His Way'

So the top news lately includes both Frank Gore and Torrey Smith. One is likely gone and the other is likely coming in. I think if you were to ask 49ers fans, the consensus would be that we want Frank to finish out his career with the team that drafted him. For him to stay, it would likely mean having to sign some sort of below market deal for 1 to 2 years, and he would be sharing his carries with Carlos Hyde. Well Frank has other ideas, and he'll probably end up saying what another famous Frank used to sing, "I did it MY way." So as heartbreaking as it is to see Gore go, I wish him luck with the Eagles or the Colts or whomever he feels will give him the best situation.

The other exciting development is that the Colin Kaepernick may finally be able to get that deep threat that he has never had during his 49ers tenure. The deal for WR Torrey Smith is just about done and I'm eagerly waiting for an official announcement of this. Before this deal, the team was probably looking to draft a receiver with a high pick. Given Baalke's lack of success at drafting WR's and his good track record in free agency, this is probably the best outcome. Smith is in his prime at 26 years of age and has a proven record of success in the NFL. It's also pretty cool that he gets to reunite with Anquan Boldin. With Quinton Patton and Bruce Ellington competing for the slot position, things look pretty good with the Niners WR crew for next season. All that's needed now is some depth.
