The San Francisco 49ers had a brief media availability session on Friday, marking the end of the first week of the team's offseason workout program. He got some questions about injured players, and had a bit of an update on NaVorro Bowman. According to Tomsula, Bowman will take part in the offseason workout program, and would be involved in some of the on-field work. He did not know specifically how many reps he would get, but it sounds like he won't be completely held out.
Next week marks the second week of the basic strength, conditioning and rehab work allowed in the beginning of the offseason workout program. After that second week, the on-field work will begin. The next three weeks allow for coaches to work with individual players, and then offensive or defensive units, although not offense vs. defense. The final four weeks are when we get into the OTAs and mandatory minicamp where it is offense vs. defense.
It is those seven weeks of coaching and OTAs/minicamp where we could get a better handle on Bowman's status. If Bowman is not participating at all, that will be disappointing but not the end of the world. But if they have him out there running around and taking care of business, we can get a little more excited about it.
