Golden Nuggets: What Will the 2015 49ers Look Like?

Just a trio of links for today and the most interesting one is a question posed by Kevin Lynch: Will this year's team be more offensive-minded than defensive? The past 5 seasons or so, the Niners have primarily been a defensive team with an inconsistent offense and that was evident the entire Harbaugh era. Even though Jim was an offensive coach, his teams were spearheaded by the defense.

Now we have a defensive head coach, but a team with a lot of holes and questions on defense. We always expect turnover due to free agency, but this off-season the biggest factor has been retirements. Patrick Willis, Chris Borland, and possibly Justin Smith are gone, and the best player on defense (NaVorro Bowman) is coming back from more than a year lost due to injury. On the offensive side, Colin Kaepernick looks to have made some improvements and Torrey Smith is a legitimate acquisition to bolster the passing game. The loss of Frank Gore hurts, but the running game still has a lot of talent in Carlos Hyde, Reggie Bush, and Kendall Hunter.

Could the 49ers offense finally make a name for themselves this season? We look forward to what 2015-16 will bring.
