The NFL announced on Thursday that Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson will be reinstated to the league, effective Friday. Peterson was suspended November 18 for violation of the NFL's Personal Conduct Policy following his arrest for child abuse in disciplining his child.
This is but one step in a process that is far from concluded. Peterson is still a member of the Minnesota Vikings, but there has been a lot of chatter that he wants out, and/or they want him out. There have been rumors he wants to join the Dallas Cowboys, but there have also been rumors he might be traded to the Arizona Cardinals, among other teams.
The San Francisco 49ers host the Vikings this fall. I don't think the Vikings will release him, but I also don't know that a trade will happen. He has a $15.4 million cap hit. If the Vikings trade or release him, they would save $13 million in cap room. The team has said they won't release him, but that could be simply for trade leverage.
I would guess AP ends up moving somewhere before the start of the season. He could very well stick around, but the whole situation just seems a little difficult to manage with him in town moving forward. Of course, given how crazy this has all been, maybe he does just end up sticking around. It's a somewhat crazy situation.
