The San Francisco 49ers are nine days away from the start of the 2015 NFL Draft, and they still have some official pre-draft visits to wrap up. Matt Miller is reporting the team will host South Carolina running back Mike Davis for a visit on Wednesday. He would be the first reported running back to officially visit with the 49ers. There have been reports connecting the team to six other running backs in other circumstances.
In a quick look at scouting reports, I am reading about a guy with solid power, but not a lot of lateral ability. He is a guy who can hit the hole and find some success, but if the hole isn't there, might have some problems. I've seen a mix of comparison's though based on his positives. Big Blue View look at him as a potential improvement on Ahmad Bradshaw. Buffalo Rumblings said some would describe him in the vein of Maurice Jones-Drew, but they viewed him more like Dennis Johnson, who spent his most significant time with the Texans.
He is viewed as an early day three pick. Some have suggested the 49ers should look at guys like Melvin Gordon or Todd Gurley, but a later pick makes more sense. They do have question marks at running back, but I just don't see the need to jump on a running back early. Of course, if they are not comfortable with Reggie Bush and Kendall Hunter (certainly very possible), then maybe they make a move earlier. I don't see it, but maybe it happens.
