I was poking around Reddit earlier today, and I came across this highlight video of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. It's a fun Superman-esque look at Kap's career to date, highlighting the huge moments he has had thus far.
Highlight videos always need to be taken with a grain of salt given that by their nature are only looking at the best plays in a player's career. We know that Colin Kaepernick has had his share of low points, and the Kap discussion revolves around both sides of this.
However, I am sharing this video now because of the fact that it highlights the highs. There are a lot of different opinions about Kap and what the future holds. However, one reason some people remain hopeful about the future is because his ceiling appears so high at times. He has struggled with consistency in that regard, but when you see those highs, it is easy to forget about the lows.
Maybe Kap never reaches the level of consistency we want to see, but it can be addictive seeing him make some of the plays he has made. Whether it be the run against Green Bay, the touchdown pass to Anquan Boldin in the NFC title game, or any other assortment of players, it is easy to get sucked in by what could be, and what he hope will happen at some point. It comes back to the familiar, "if he can just put it all together". The ceiling is immense.
Kap has two and a half seasons under his belt as the team's starting quarterback. He spent the offseason working with Kurt Warner and a pair of quarterback coaches. Maybe he takes a step forward in his development, maybe he doesn't. It's hard to predict what this season will bring for Colin Kaepernick as quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers. But the highlights keep me coming back for more.
