Golden Nuggets: Countdown To The Draft

The NFL draft is finally just 2 days away after months of dissecting, analyzing, and debating prospects. The Niners have their highest pick in a few years and several positions that could use some help. The last few drafts, Trent Baalke has used the draft as a way to try to collect future starters from injured during the draft players and to collect picks for future drafts. This year could be different because of the concern that the team has at multiple positions.

There are 5 key areas that the team needs to address in this draft. The top one may be the inside linebacker position. With the unexpected retirements of Patrick Willis and Chris Borland, this need shoots all the way up. The team is left with Bowman, who's health we are unsure of, and Wilhoite. The team will not select a player early for this position, but they will definitely address it. Wide receiver is a position where I believe they take with their 1st round pick. This draft is full of WRs that look like potential stars and I don't the Niners can miss out like they did last year.

The 3 other positions of need would be both lines as well as cornerback, which always seems to be an issue. With Justin Smith's career still up in the air, they need to reload at defensive line and you can never have too many offensive linemen. As far as the cornerback position is concerned, the 2 starters from last year are gone. Losing Chris Culliver and Perrish Cox to free agency leaves the team with Tramaine Brock, Jimmie Ward, and Dontae Johnson as the top 3. We will need some competition for this position.
