Golden Nuggets: Draft Day

Good morning everyone, the day is finally here. The first round of the NFL Draft starts tonight in Chicago. The 49ers have the 15th overall pick and seem to have several ways in which they can go. They could trade up or down and go after a number of positions. Defensive line, cornerback, wide receiver, tight end, and linebacker could all conceivably be the position they take with their first pick, I have no idea though. I have my own personal favorites at every position, but it feels a little awkward that my man crush is Arik Armstead since twitter seems to hate him in the first round. It doesn't help matters that the reasons for my man crush boil down to 6'8 and local pride. Who am I, Al Davis? I also loved Dorial Green Beckham, but the NFL draft stock machine has plummeted his stock in the last few months. That is one thing I have never understood. How can months of waiting around and doing basically nothing affect draft stock so much? Seriously, look at a mock draft from January, and look at a mock draft from today. Crazy.

If there is a Superbowl of the off season, it is definitely the NFL draft. And the first round is absolutely the highlight of the event. The second day is still great, but the third day is where the network kills it for anybody who is a hardcore enough fan to actually watch the third day. They don't want to be there, and they really would prefer we didn't watch. I have this imagined moment in my head twenty years from now in some players hall of fame acceptance speech where they detail how they took inspiration from their selection being skipped on TV so the Network could interview Johny Whats His Name or Tim Tebow, or Jim Harbaugh in Michigan.
