2015 NFL mock draft: Arik Armstead, cornerbacks rule the roost in the mock draft database

We've got our final update to the 2015 NFL mock draft database. The 49ers are connected to Arik Armstead like nobody else, but there are also a lot of cornerback picks. It should make for an interesting day one.

The 2015 NFL Draft is less than 12 hours away, which means it is about time to bring our mock draft database to a close. You can view the whole thing HERE. I've updated the picks, and also added several more drafts. We have 31 total with the inclusion of several beat writers (Maiocco, Biderman, Barrows), and four employees. They are not any more sure things with their picks given the numerous moving parts around the San Francisco 49ers in the draft, but they add a little more context.

It will be fascinating to see how close anybody gets with their mocks this year, in large part because we have as close to a consensus as we have seen in some time. In the 31 total mock drafts, 17 have the 49ers selecting Oregon defensive lineman Arik Armstead. That is quite a consensus opinion for a team picking midway through the first round. It is worth noting only one of the new 49ers team/beat writer additions included Armstead. For the rest of the national audience, I have to think there is a little bit of a hive mentality that leads to some people adjusting their picks. I'm sure some legitimately think Armstead is the pick, but I bet at least a few are just following the crowd.

The 49ers beat writers all went with cornerbacks, with Maiocco and Biderman going Byron Jones, and Barrrows going Marcus Peters. The cornerback position as a whole had nine selections, including three of Jones, three of Marcus Peters, two of Kevin Johnson and one of Trae Waynes. I remain convinced that cornerback will not be the pick in the first round. I could be proven very wrong on this, but I am going to stick with that today. The 49ers have generally not invested high picks in pure cornerbacks, and I think they are counting on last year's class, plus this year's free agency additions to make a big impact. I do think the team adds a cornerback, but not until day two at the earliest.
