Darnell Dockett getting used to playing with players he talked trash to for years

Darnell Dockett talked about some of the awkwardness upon meeting his new teammates on the 49ers. Given his history of trash talk, it sounds like it was an interesting first interaction.

The San Francisco 49ers will make their first pick of the 2015 NFL Draft tonight (or trade it away), but before then, they are wrapping up their voluntary minicamp. We'll get into more of the minicamp next week after the draft, but there are some interesting stories worth sharing to take our mind off the interminable wait until the draft gets going at 5 p.m. PT.

New 49er Darnell Dockett is at the minicamp, but is working primarily on rehab for his knee. He tore his ACL last August, and is working to get back for the coming season. He is not taking part in the on-field practices, but he is still getting plenty of opportunities to interact with his new teammates.

In chatting with the media Wednesday afternoon, Dockett talked about the awkwardness of interacting with players with whom he engaged in some serious trash talk over the years.

"It's kind of awkward at first," Dockett said, smiling. "I walked past Staley about four times before we actually spoke. We kind of shook hands and put it behind us. We're on the same page now."

I have to say, it would have been pretty great to be in the 49ers locker room the first time Darnell Dockett and Joe Staley crossed paths this month. Given Dockett's history with the 49ers, I can picture a slightly tense situation, but something that would chill out pretty quickly. Either way, it would have been fun to see.
