Michael Crabtree visiting Raiders this week after reportedly turning down close to $3 million from Dolphins

The San Francisco 49ers are unlikely to re-sign Michael Crabtree, but his future can still impact the team in terms of comp picks. Here are the latest details on his free agency saga.

Free agent wide receiver Michael Crabtree remains in the news as he looks for his next home in the NFL. We learned on Friday that he is visiting the Oakland Raiders this week. Then over the weekend, we started to hear some more random mutterings from south Florida.

The Miami Dolphins visited with Michael Crabtree, and Miami Herald reported the team was willing to pay Crabtree close to $3 million in 2015. They said Crabtree was looking for something closer to $4.5 million. However, the Palm Beach post followed that up by reporting the Dolphins were denying much of that earlier report. Their source said the team never made an offer to Crabtree or discussed money with him, and that there was no truth to the $3M/$4.5M numbers mentioned.

Who really knows what is happening at this point. The Raiders have more cap space than most of the league, so maybe they will be willing to shell out a few extra bucks for a wide receiver who would be a clear upgrade. And now let's just hope this happens sooner rather than the later. The clock is ticking for comp picks!
