The 49ers have a lot of "old" guys, but they are not in bad shape

The Interwebz had an interesting little discussion point on Monday, as Eagles writer Jimmy Kempski put together a table listing each team in order of how many 30+ year old players on their roster. The San Francisco 49ers were tied for second with 12 players 30 years of age or older. Here is the full list of teams:

It is also worth nothing that Glenn Dorsey and Craig Dahl will both turn 30 this summer. However, as reedkrase pointed out, the players that are 30+ mostly reserves. It is not ideal to have that many older players, but for purposes of the future, it is not the end of the world.

I've put together a projected 49ers starting lineup, with a few hedges. While the 49ers have several options along the defensive line, there are numerous questions. Will Justin Smith retire? How are Glenn Dorsey and Ian Williams going to rebound from their respective injuries? And of course, they will likely spend more time in a four-man front with their nickel back, so that is something to factor in as well. That line could be incredibly old, incredibly young, or somewhere in between.

Aside from the line, the biggest age issue is tight end. Vernon Davis is 31 and while Vance McDonald is only 24, he is coming off a back injury, and a rather inauspicious start to his career. Other than that though, the 49ers are in pretty good shape among their starters. I was a little surprised at how young some of the guys were. Torrey Smith and NaVorro Bowman are both only 26 years old. I knew they weren't old guys, but it is still odd seeing they are "only" 26.
