Golden Nuggets: Workouts Begin

The 49ers officially start their offseason workouts today. With Jim Tomsula being a new head coach, he gets a head start over 25 other teams. This team has more question marks than the past few years. The biggest being, what does the post Harbaugh/Fangio era look like? Harbaugh took a terrible team and transformed it almost over night. Vic Fangio had the defense ranked in the top 5 defenses in the league for each of the years he was the defensive coordinator. What are the expectations for this team?

That last question hinges on a few players on this team. The play of Colin Kaepernick has the biggest influence on that question. If Colin improves on his passing to go along with his athletic ability, he could carry this team. Colin spent his offseason in Arizona working with a qb coach and Kurt Warner to improve. They worked on his throwing mechanics, but we will not know if it helped until the regular season. It's usually a hard task to change someone's mechanics they have been using for years in the matter of months.

In addition to Kap's play, the offensive line needs to play much better. Kap was in constant pressure last season. For Kap to stay in the pocket and throw passes, the line needs to protect him. With pressure, Kap uses his instincts and athletic ability to escape. If the line gives him protection, he may be able to use his new throwing mechanics. The 49ers also need the wide receivers to make some plays. The wideouts had a case of the drops last season, which was not like the last few seasons. I fully expect the team to select a WR in the 1st round of the draft, which hopefully lands them a playmaker to go along with Boldin and Torrey Smith. There are many questions revolving around this team. Hopefully the questions are answered well.
