The San Francisco 49ers have some questions on the offensive line, and it is possible they will look to address them in the 2015 NFL Draft. Matt Barrows is reporting the team will host Utah offensive lineman Jeremiah Poutasi for a visit later this month. He is the first official visit we have heard involving an offensive lineman.
Poutasi played left tackle the last two seasons, but he is projected as a guard in the NFL. The 49ers have Brandon Thomas and Erik Pears potentially competing for the left guard position, along with Marcus Martin or Daniel Kilgore potentially getting a shot as well. In a perfect world, Thomas will emerge in that role, but if you didn't know from the last year, it is far from a perfect world!
Even if Thomas emerges as the team's starting left guard, Alex Boone is set to hit free agency after the coming year. Part of the resolution to Boone's holdout this past year was that the 49ers agreed to not franchise him. I would not normally expect them to tag a guard, but given his versatility at guard and tackle, there might have been that possibility. Instead, I imagine there is a good chance the 49ers are replacing Boone a year from now.
